Gaelic soldier-poet John Roy Stuart – video available

A 32-minute video telling the story of the Gaelic soldier-poet John Roy Stuart, Colonel of the Jacobite Edinburgh Regiment in 1745/46, has now been uploaded onto the 1745 Association’s YouTube channel at

The video is a recording of a talk given the at the Scottish Poetry Library on June 9th. It is the last in a trilogy seeking to unravel unsolved mysteries of the Jacobite era.  The other two videos in the series are ‘Remembering Dunkeld’ (Dunkeld Cathedral, 2019, 27 min) which examines the facts surrounding the destruction of the city of Dunkeld by fire in 1689, and ‘When Madame de Pompadour met Bonnie Prince Charlie’ (2021, 24 min), which considers why French support for a Stuart Restoration, sealed by the Treaty of Fontainebleau in October 1745, came to a sudden end after October 1746.
