Return of the Stuarts: Iconic Portraits of the Royal House of Stuart in Exile – a Major Temporary Exhibition at the West Highland Museum from Thursday 18 August to 29 October 2022.

This unique opportunity to see original portraits of Bonnie Prince Charlie and members of his family is part of the museum’s centenary celebrations. Thanks to enormous public support, more than 175 funders have secured this iconic exhibition for the museum. Museums Galleries Scotland have also supported the project and awarded £31,000 from their Museums Development Fund to refurbish the museum’s Jacobite Gallery in time for the exhibition. In the long term these improvements will enable better care for the collection and bring more of it onto public display. There are exciting plans for the exhibition launch on Thursday 18th August, from 11 am – 3.30pm. Art historians Peter Pininski and Professor Edward Corp will deliver a lecture about the paintings in the exhibition at Highland Cinema adjacent to the museum. The lecture will be followed by a lunch in the restaurant and an opportunity to tour the exhibition. Crowdfund contributors are eligible for an early bird discount of £15 per ticket for this exclusive event (usually £20). Please email the museum at info@westhighlandmuseum.org.uk to enquire about reserving a ticket.
